Answer to this question is simple, because boundaries define us. Think of it as a map. It shows you and everyone around you where you end and they begin.
This is one main principle in life. In order for us to grow and evolve we need clarity, and authenticity.
A life without boundaries is confusing and exhausting, it results in uncertainty, which is one of our biggest fears in life.
You might ask why doubtfulness is scary? Because it threatens our safety.
Our nerves system goes on alarm when we are not safe or we perceive that we are not safe.
All of this can happen in a blink of an eye, and we have no idea what is going on.

Everything in nature has a boundary that is how we define them.

COSTS OF NOT HAVING BOUNDRIES:

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • Everyone’s needs comes before mine

  • Having unrealistic expectations of one’s self

  • Mental challenges - Anxiety, Depression

  • Physical challenges - Inflammation, over/under eating, headaches,…

  • Shame - Guilt cycle

  • Resentment

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it.
It’s scary because you have never done it. It starts by trusting yourself and your worth. YES, you matter. YES, your needs are as important as everyone else’s. And YES, you have the right to express them.
If you can’t say NO, if you overwork, if you overthink, it’s all because you are not having healthy boundaries.
These patterns can be deep rooted in us and can be challenging to change. Many of us learn these survival adaptation in very young age, therefor to introduce a new habit we might have to get professional help. And we definitely need to be patient and compassionate with ourselves.

LET’S PRACTICE:

Ask yourself these questions:

In what areas of your life are you dismissing your needs?
What might be the reason you ignore your needs?

  • People-pleasing

  • Self-sabotage

  • Second- guessing Yourself

  • Fear

  • Guilt

How can you create the possibility of change?
